Although part of Spain, Tenerife and the other Canary Islands lie just off the coast of Africa, giving them a tropical climate and sunshine all-year round, making this a great place to come for both winter and summer sun. The holiday centre of Tenerife is the large resort of Playa de Las Americas and its neighbour Los Cristianos, although there are many other resorts around its coast, all offering something different to their visitors. As well as the beaches, Tenerife can boast many other attractions, from all-night clubbing to water parks to whale watching.

If you’re looking for cheap Tenerife holidays, then Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos are the obvious resorts to choose, as their size means there are plenty of hotels and apartments to choose from, making it easy to find cheap deals. You’ll also find plenty to do in these bustling resorts, which are joined together by a long promenade. The beaches (Playa de Las Americas alone has six!) are lined with bars, cafes and shops, and you can try out pretty much any water-sport you can think of, so if you’ve always fancied yourself as a jet-skier, you’ll be happy. Both resorts, particularly Playa de Las Americas, are known for their lively nightlife, with many bars and clubs to suit all tastes. Shopping is good too, as Tenerife has tax-free status, and there is a popular Sunday market in Los Cristianos where you can pick up handicrafts to take home.

In Playa de Las Americas all-inclusive deals are popular. These are often very good value, and great for budgeting, as you know that most of your costs will be covered before you even set foot on the plane. Accommodation is a mixture of hotels and apartments, and is generally modern and clean. The resort is built on a hill, so families with young children or those with restricted mobility should be careful to make sure they stay at the bottom of it.
